Block Friday is just around the corner and it’s one of our favorite days of the year! While the rest of the country is hitting the shops, your kiddo can have fun while reaping the benefits of block play at Play Street Museum. This annual PSM holiday features an assortment of blocks to explore and a variety of tasks to challenge your block building skills. Drop by for a session of block play and stop by our retail area to purchase your favorite blocks too.
Here’s a countdown of our favorite block play items and a little bit about why we love them so much:
5. Interlocking blocks like Plus Plus Blocks or Legos provide opportunities to build in a unique way. The interlocking feature gives children the task of lining blocks up just right and pushing them together to make them stay. This can build perseverance in children of all ages. It can also be especially helpful for young children in allowing them to practice managing their frustrations and build confidence as they try over and over again to get the pieces to stick.

4. Window Blocks can be a colorful addition to your toy box. These blocks feature an acrylic window encased in a wooden frame that allows children to see right through. The visual effect that is created takes kiddo’s imagination to the next level and really lets them get creative as they construct their colorful structures.
3. Picture blocks are some of our favorites to explore because they provide an added layer of educational value to block play time. Picture blocks are typically cube shaped and have illustrative information printed on each side. We love Uncle Goose’s assortment of picture blocks that range from the planets and moon phases, to insects and dinos, to sign language and classic ABC blocks.

2. Magnetic blocks like Tegu or MagnaTiles, can be a satisfying block play option because the magnets inside help them to stay in place. These types of blocks are a great introduction to geometry and spatial reasoning as they allow you to create 3-D shapes like pyramids and cubes with the stability that the inner magnet provides.
1. Wooden Blocks are a staple of any preschool classroom and you’ll find them in each of our museum locations as well. We love that the larger size and sturdy construction of these blocks make them freestanding and easy to stack. We’ve seen kiddos spend hours building towers, bridges, castles and more. The sky’s the limit when your child begins to construct with these classic wooden blocks!

We think that you’ll find this to be the best party on the block so grab your spot and come build on your learning with us!
